On June 28, 1999, Pompey’s League Cup first-round match against Torquay United was postponed by one week.

Alan Ball’s side were due to travel to the Gulls on August 10.

However, because of a solar eclipse, the seaside town was expecting an influx of tourists.

It meant Pompey’s match was pushed back seven days by Devon police.
