Paul Cook lauded Pompey’s first-half showing as they began 2016 in style.
Matt Clarke and Marc McNulty both netted during an impressive opening 45 minutes against Crawley this afternoon.
Substitute Gary Roberts then netted late on to give the hosts a 3-0 victory in their first match of the new year.
The Blues were at their fluent best at times, particularly in the first-half.
And their manager was full of praise for League Two’s top scorers.
Cook said: ‘I thought we were terrific in the first half, we were bright, inventive, had numerous chances and got attempts on goal.
‘To go in 2-0 was only just a fair reflection, but we probably deserved a goal or two more.
‘It’s a long season, there’s a long way to go, we’ve got to keep believing in what we are doing.
‘Great credit to Crawley because they never laid down in the second half and caused us a lot more problems than they did the first.
‘Our third goal was a good one to calm everyone, that relaxed the whole stadium and sent us home happy.’
