Pompey’s resolve has been praised after they progressed to the FA Cup third round.
The Blues grabbed a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in a feisty Cup clash at Fratton Park.
Adam McGurk’s 21st-minute goal made the difference as Paul Cook’s side kept a clean sheet against the free-scoring side.
Assistant manager, Leam Richardson, paid tribute to the character shown by Pompey.
He feels the strides the Blues are making could be seen in the windy conditions.
Richardson said: ‘You expect that kind of game. It’s the FA Cup and both teams are desperate to progress.
‘Accrington are capable of hurting you, so to go through with a clean sheet is pleasing.
‘We are starting to see fluency in certain parts of our game.
‘They are free-flowing side in good scoring form.
‘So it’s pleasing to get through to the third round. It’s about being in the hat for the draw.’
