Pompey Academy continued their fine run of form with a 4-0 victory over Crawley Town at Oakwood this morning.
A second-half double by George Branford and late goals for Connor Chaplin and Bradley Tarbuck gave the young Blues their fifth win on the trot and put them in good shape ahead of next Monday’s FA Youth Cup tie at Bolton.
Pompey came racing out of the block, with both Adam Webster and James Hartson going close to an opener.
Hartson narrowly missed again, firing just wide, as the visitors dominated the opening half without finding a breakthrough.
They got their reward on 55 minutes, though, as Branford picked up a loose ball and let fly a shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.
Branford was on the scoresheet again moments later when he intercepted a poor clearance to go clear and blast Pompey into a 2-0 lead.
With the match effectively won, boss Paul Hardyman gave substitutes Jae Heon Kim, Nick Taresenko and Chaplin a chance to impress for the final 20 minutes.
It proved to be an inspired move as Kim sent Chaplin in to grab Pompey’s third from the edge of the area.
And seconds before the final whistle, Tarbuck got his reward for a fine display when he darted in to make it 4-0.
