Pompey hope to finalise the date of their tantalising FA Youth Cup clash with Manchester City by the end of the week.
Mikey Harris’ side have progressed to the third round of the competition following a penalty shoot-out triumph on Tuesday night at Bristol Rovers.
They will now host the Premier League’s leaders at Fratton Park.
The eagerly-awaited tie has to be played before Saturday, December 19.
Pompey are currently in talks with Manchester City over reaching a suitable date for the fixture.
However, with the Blues hosting York next Tuesday night, Mark Catlin expects the encounter to take place next month.
And he believes they will soon be in a position to announce when City will visit.
He said: ‘The process has started already and we are talking to all parties concerned.
‘We have to speak to the groundsman, our Academy and, of course, Manchester City as we attempt to reach a date agreed by all.
‘We are hoping to be able to announce something this week.
‘I would say it will probably take place next month – and before the deadline of December 19.
‘It’s a fixture we are all looking forward to and a great fillip for our Academy who have done so well to get this far.
‘To be playing Manchester City is great for the lads and an opportunity to pit themselves against a very strong side.
‘I am sure the fixture will attract our supporters to come out and cheer our youngsters on.’
Pompey also reached the third round of the competition last season, when they narrowly lost 1-0 to Bolton Wanderers at Fratton Park.
