Guy Whittingham was delighted with his side’s improved display as they made it three draws out of of the last four matches.

David Connolly’s 22nd-minute opener was cancelled out by Shaun Williams five minutes later as MK Dons held Pompey to a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park.

At times the Blues were the dominant force – particularly in the first half.

After the break, they failed to maintain the standards they produced in the eye-catching opening 45 minutes – but were nonetheless worthy of a point.

And Whittingham was quick to sing their praises afterwards.

The caretaker boss said: ‘I thought we played ever so well in the first half – it was perhaps one of the best displays during my time in charge.

‘David Connolly was rewarded with his goal in a really good move but it was disappointing to see MK Dons equalise not long after.

‘We couldn’t keep those standards in the second half but I thought it was a really positive performance from the players and something we can keep building on.’
