Oldham 0 Pompey 2: they said what?

Have your say

Michael Appleton has taken Tom Williams on trial.

The 31-year-old arrived at Fratton Park yesterday in a bid to impress following a month’s training at QPR.

The much-travelled former Peterborough full-back is currently a free agent.

He joins Gabor Gyepes on the south coast – the former Cardiff defender having spent the past week with the Blues. Now Appleton must decide whether to take anything further.

He said: ‘There are probably half a dozen triallists who have come through the building and people don’t have a clue about.

‘I don’t think we are in a position as a club to turn down triallists coming in and having a look at them.

‘We’ve had Tom Williams, who went to Chicago Red Bulls for a period of time.

‘He did a little bit of training out there. It didn’t really happen for him so he has been training at QPR for the last month or so.

‘We had a look at him yesterday and will do for a few days.

‘Similar to Gabor, if he does enough to impress and we can do something depending on what the Football League say, then maybe there is something there.

‘But we’re certainly not going to tie ourselves down to anyone and promise anyone anything.’
