Christian Burgess has dismissed suggestions of any psychological damage to Pompey’s Fratton Park approach after their late Stevenage setback.

The Blues were denied a home victory in the midweek clash and have not fired on all cylinders on home turf this season.

I don’t think it’s getting into anyone’s head or anything lke that

And it’s a strange contrast that their away form is now currently the best in the country, especially when the club have struggled on the road in recent seasons.

While Burgess admits the DVD made for painful viewing, he insists confidence has not been hit.

The Pompey defender said: ‘I don’t think it’s getting into anyone’s head or anything lke that.

‘It’s early days and it’s just the way things have panned out.

‘The statistics show our away form is better.

‘But teams have showed us a lot of respect and we have maybe missed that little bit of luck or that final bit of quality in the final third at home.

‘I’m sure that will come, though.

‘Then we will get that bit of momentum.

‘There’s plenty we could have done to stop the goal.

‘There were a couple of rash decisions in there and we feel like we should have stopped it.

‘It was still hard watching it and that was three days later.’

Mansfield Town have been one of the surprise teams in League Two so far and arrive at Fratton Park in excellent form.

Burgess said: ‘We dropped two points the other night and we’re obviously looking to put that right.

‘But Mansfield are a team in form and a team playing with confidence.

‘They’ve got some good players and plenty of experience in their side.

‘Hopefully, it should be a good game.’

Burgess, who was sporting a black eye, shrugged off his battle scar from the midweek clash.

He said: ‘When you are a centre-half, you get the odd knock.

‘I don’t think it was intentional and it won’t cause a problem.’
