Pompey have announced their fixtures for the newly-formed Final Third Development League (South).

The Blues are one of eight clubs to have agreed to participate in the competition, which effectively is the resurrection of the reserve league.

It will involve a total of 14 matches for each club played from September until April on a home and away basis.

All fixtures are provisionally scheduled for Wednesdays, however Pompey have expressed a desire for Tuesday 2pm kick-offs for home matches.

Such a stipulation is left by the competition’s organisers for clubs to sort out among themselves, with some preferring evening kick-offs.

However, the Blues have given their preference which, as the hosting club, has subsequently been granted.

Home matches are pencilled in to take place at the University of Portsmouth’s Langstone Campus.

These will be staged on the new training pitch currently used by the Blues, which has barriers constructed around it.

Spectators will be allowed in to watch the team’s progress.

That’s a change from the development matches as these were almost always played behind closed doors.

Pompey’s campaign kicks off on September 10 with a trip to Peterborough.

The first home fixture will be on September 23, with the visit of Luton.

Pompey also take on Luton in the final match of the season on April 1 away from home.

The other teams involved in the league are Cambridge, Bournemouth, Gillingham, AFC Wimbledon and Leyton Orient.
