Pompey continued their recent resurgence with a 1-1 draw at Preston.

Jed Wallace put the Blues into a third-minute lead at Deepdale but they could not hold on under a barrage of pressure from the hosts as Keith Keane levelled 13 minutes from time.

Wallace gave Pompey a dream start when he capitalised on good work from David Connolly to net his fifth goal of the season and third in as many games.

But the visitors then rode their luck for periods of the first 45 minutes as they saw their woodwork rattled twice before the interval.

First, King hit the crossbar and then Joe Garner should have buried a close-range effort but could only hit the inside of the post after Yassin Moutaouakil’s miskick presented a golden opportunity.

Pompey made the most of their escape and steadied themselves to see out the rest of the half without too many worrying incidents.

And they defended manfully under a barrage of Preston attacks, only threatening briefly with sporadic counter-attacks.

Understandably, Preston regained the initiative in the second period and Simon Eastwood was called into action on several occasions.

But he was powerless to prevent Keane’s equaliser 13 minutes from time.

Wallace was caught on his heels as a loose ball dropped on the edge of the box and the Preston man lobbed a classy finish into the Pompey keeper’s top corner.

While it looked like Preston may go on to claim victory, Pompey stood firm to collect another good point on their travels.
