Jay Sadler’s team have been short of league outings recently after a number of fixtures have been rearranged.

So they were glad to get a match on Sunday to build on their success in the Hampshire FA Challenge Cup when they beat Southampton Women 6-3.

London & South East Regional League side Carshalton gave a good account of themselves at Privett Park.

And it was an entertaining match with both teams impressing.

Lauren Peck came closest to opening the scoring in the first half for the Blues.

But although she got the ball in the net, her effort was ruled out with the offside flag raised.

The opening goal arrived early in the second half when captain Gemma Hillier swept a volleyed effort home from a pass by Tash Stephens.

Pompey quickly doubled their advantage.

Hillier went on the attack and as she tried to take on the visiting keeper the ball bounced off the striker into the net.

Samantha Quayle continued her good scoring form after her five strikes in the cup final on Wednesday.

She got the third with a deflected effort to put the Blues in a complete control.

Hillier turned provider when she played the ball over the top to free Ellie Kirby who made it 4-0.

Pompey Ladies are back in league action on Sunday when they host Cardiff in the FA Premier League southern division.
