Shelly Cox hit a hat-trick as Pompey Ladies crushed Southampton Women’s FC 8-0 at Dover Road last night.
The margin of victory could easily have been double – as the Premier League Blues booked their spot in the Hampshire Cup final.
Charley Wilson added two second-half goals, while Kaylee Schumann-Edwards, Kirsty McGee and Gemma Hillier also found the net.
Pompey had battered the Southampton goal right from the start.
Such was the Blues’ dominance, the score could have been 3-0 before Schumann-Edwards headed the opener on 11 minutes.
Cox then cracked home the second – firing in a brilliant left-footed shot on 19 minutes.
The visitors had no answer to Pompey’s superior pass-and-move game.
And McGee was soon tapping in a simple third on 23 minutes.
Pompey then added three more goals in a rampant six-minute spell.
First, Cox chased down the keeper’s clearance to divert the ball home on 29 minutes.
Hillier then flicked home number five before Cox completed her hat-trick when she turned neatly inside the box to fire home.
Pompey continued to dominate as the second period started – Leeta Rutherford shooting against the inside of the post and Hillier toe-poking an effort against the same upright.
The Blues finally added to their tally on 87 minutes, Wilson flicking home a header at the near post.
A minute later the striker neatly turned and shot home again to complete the rout.
