As a result of a vote earlier today, the cut-off point for permanent transfers will now be at 5pm on Thursday, August 9, 2018.

It is aligned with the Premier League’s decision it opted to take in September.

Nevertheless, Football League clubs can still make loan signings until August 31.

They will also be able to take players on a temporary basis with an agreement to make the deal permanent during the January transfer window and sign free agents up until the same date.

Of the 72 Football League clubs, 40 were in favour and 29 were against, while there were three apologies.

EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said: ‘After discussing the options throughout the course of the last few months, I’m pleased that the matter has been determined by clubs ahead of the start of next season.

‘This new approach will give clubs and managers the stability they crave earlier in the season, while also providing the flexibility to add to their squads after the traditional deadline until the end of the month if required.’
