Ex-Pompey striker Ray Pointer has died at the age of 79.

The former England international passed away at a care home in Blackpool this morning.

Pointer made 166 appearances and scored 31 goals after joining the Blues from Coventry City in January 1967.

During the next seven seasons he established himself as a popular Fratton Park performer until his retirement at the end of the 1972-73 campaign.
