Former Pompey player and Hall of Fame inductee, Billy Wilson, has passed away.
The 71-year-old, who represented the Blues on 216 occasions and netted six goals, died on Thursday evening.
Wilson arrived at Fratton Park in a £15,000 transfer from Blackburn Rovers in January 1972.
Over the next five-and-a-half seasons, he performed either at left-back or in a midfield role.
He later combined playing with running the Pompey pub with wife Heather, before leaving football to work in the pub profession until retirement in 2006.
Gosport-based Wilson was recognised for his excellent service to the Blues by being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.
A full obituary will be published in The News next week.
