On this day in 1986, Three Pompey players were sent off in a Second Division match against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Billy Gilbert saw red for dissent, Kevin Dillon was sent off for two bookings and Mick Tait received his marching orders for an off-the-field incident involving the Blades’ Peter Beagrie.

The former Everton winger was also sent off for his part in the incident.

Given their numerical advantage, the home side won the match 1-0.
