Pompey delivered a resounding message to former boss Steve Cotterill as they stormed to a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Fratton Park.
A lifeless first half, which Forest edged, eventually stirred as the half-time whistle approached with Erik Huseklepp netting the first of two goals after a scorching finish into the top corner just moments after Hayden Mullins hit the crossbar.
Cotterill, on his return to Pompey just three weeks after he left to take charge at the City Ground, got a decent reception from the home fans but was then the subject of some playful taunts in the second half as Pompey took charge in the closing stages.
Forest looked good early in the second period and came close to an equaliser after building the pressure, only for Stephen Henderson to make a tremendous save to deny Robbie Findley from close range as he tipped the effort from the upright in superb style.
But the points looked safe when Dave Kitson doubled the advantage, powering home a header from close range from Huseklepp’s corner to make it 2-0 with 12 minutes left.
And Pompey made sure it was three successive home wins as Huseklepp grabbed his second, turning home a close-range volley from Luke Varney’s left-win cross to send the Fratton crowd into raptures.
