Pompey were today staying tight-lipped over Peterborough’s bid for Jed Wallace.

The News understands the Blues have rejected an undisclosed offer from the League One high-fliers for their prized asset.

The bid is not a new development, however, and relates to a move from the Posh for the midfielder earlier in this January transfer window.

But interest is gathering pace in Wallace as the window moves into its final week.

And the Blues are bracing themselves for renewed moves in the coming days.

Pompey remained quiet on the subject ahead of their game with Morecambe today.

The club are concerned about unsettling the 20-year-old going into the fixture.

Wallace is expected to feature in the clash with the Shrimps, and travelled north with the rest of the squad yesterday.

Chief executive Mark Catlin refused to confirm whether a bid had been made for Wallace.

But he underlined the importance of handling the issue for the best of the club.

Catlin said: ‘Until any deals are done, we don’t comment on speculation in the press.

‘We feel that is unsettling for the club and the player involved.

‘Also, if an offer is received, it’s disrespectful to any other parties involved.

‘If any written, formal offer comes in for Jed we have to act in the best interests of Portsmouth Football Club.

‘That has to be the most important factor.’
