May: Pompey young guns can repay manager’s faith

Have your say

Pompey slumped to an embarrassing defeat to Gibraltar as their pre-season kicked off in hugely-disappointing fashion.

Michael Appleton’s side slumped to a 4-0 loss on the Victoria Stadium Astroturf to cap another depressing day for Blues fans.

Earlier, Trevor Birch announced the club could be liquidated if players didn’t reach compromise agreements in the next three weeks.

Hours later, Appleton’s 10 triallists and seven members of the development squad were always second best against a Gibraltar side on home turf.

The hosts scored twice in each half to inflict a heavy scoreline on Pompey, who were skippered by Sam Magri.

Mustapha Dumbuya was the most eye-catching of the Blues players on display, yet it was a night to forget for all concerned, including around 400 away followers.
