Pompey’s chances of promotion were given a boost as Luton drew 1-1 at Newport.

The Hatters took the lead after five minutes through a Danny Hylton penalty after being brought down inside the box by Sid Nelson.

But Newport were level when Sean Rigg fired his left-footed shot past Matt Macey in the 28th minute.

The home side had to play the final 10 minutes of the match with 10-men after Mark O’Brien was shown a second yellow card.

But relegation-stricken Newport held on for a point.

Luton stay fifth in League Two, five points behind Pompey.
