Pompey have ruled out playing a second match as part of their pre-season tour to Spain.

Michael Appleton’s squad fly out for a 10-day training camp near Malaga on July 16.

While there they will face Gibraltar in a friendly on July 20.

That will take place at the Victoria Stadium on an astroturf pitch.

Appleton had also spoken of his desire to arrange a second friendly while over in southern Spain for what is expected to be a much-changed squad.

However, that possibility has now been shelved.

The Blues have been unable to finalise a match against other opposition before returning home on July 26.

It leaves the club with a total of five friendlies during their pre-season campaign.

And that is now expected to be the final tally in preparation for life in League One.

The pre-season programme starts on July 5, when the players report back.

Their first friendly kicks off on Saturday, July 14, with a match at the Hawks.

Just two days later Appleton’s men will fly to Spain for their training camp.

They will next face Gibraltar on Friday, July 20, before returning home six days later.

Their third friendly is booked for Aldershot on Wednesday, August 1.

Bolton visit Fratton Park on Saturday, August 4 – the sole match to be played on home turf. Then it is off to AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday, August 8, for the final pre-season friendly.

A Pompey XI are also booked to play at Salisbury City on Saturday, August 11.

However, it is likely to be a mainly Academy side making the trip to the non-leaguers.
