Pompey are sweating on the fitness of Jack Whatmough as they aim to resolve their central defensive dilemma at Accrington Stanley.
Ben Chorley is to serve a one-match ban following his sending off in the 1-0 defeat at Northampton.

The Blues skipper was unhappy with the awarding of the second yellow following a stoppage-time aerial challenge with Brendon Moloney.
But a red card given as a result of two cautions cannot be appealed and he must sit out tomorrow.
That puts the focus on Whatmough to return from the injury which has sidelined him for the last two matches.
Chorley had recently earned a recall following the youngster’s shin complaint.
Whatmough was regarded by Awford as 50-50 ahead of Tuesday’s trip to the Sixfields Stadium but failed to make it.
Pompey now hope to have him back for the weekend fixture at Accrington to play alongside Joe Devera and Paul Robinson.
Awford said: ‘Jack wasn’t fit for Northampton.
‘We don’t know if he will play at the weekend, we will have to have a look at him today and tomorrow and see how we go with that.
‘He’s got a whack on the shin bone, right above the ankle.
‘But it’s a bang rather than a twist or anything, so it has been very painful for him.
‘We are going to have to make sure we get that right.
‘He wasn’t ready on Tuesday.
‘We’ll just have to see how he is for the weekend.’
Should Whatmough again not make it, Awford can turn to Johnny Ertl or Adam Webster to drop into the back three.
Ertl’s last appearance in defence was in place of the injured Robinson in a 3-0 loss at Bury in October.
