Brad Saunders previews tonight’s Pompey v York game.
I didn’t go to Carlisle but it sounded like we didn’t play terribly and got caught with a penalty decision and a lucky goal.
For that reason we should stick by our guns tonight and name an unchanged side.
This season I have been impressed with the build-up play and the defending has been pretty solid, but the strikers need to take more gambles.
We saw on Saturday what happened when Caolan Lavery and Marc McNulty got into the box – but that should happen more often.
Ben Davies and Kyle Bennett put enough balls in, the strikers should take a gamble and get in there so they can be on the receiving end.
In addition, I know the players are encouraged to put crosses in from wide positions, but we need to be more central in some of our play.
If central defenders are comfortably dealing with balls in we need a Plan B down the middle to try to find a way past them.
At the moment our players seem too nervous to create because people are jumping on their backs, especially against AFC Wimbledon.
The players seem too afraid as a result and are content with playing it back and being negative.
At the start of the season they were going at teams full of confidence.
We need to be the 12th Man behind our side and supporting them, not booing. All of our players have been wrongfully booed.
I don’t believe in booing, if the performance was a really bad one I just wouldn’t clap them. I find it mind boggling people want to boo.
I understand they pay their money and are entitled to their opinion but you are there to support – not bring your team down.
