However the frontman will not now feature after picking up a knee injury in training yesterday.

Pitman netted 24 times in all competitions for Pompey last season but striker Oli Hawkins has been Kenny Jackett's preferred option for much of this campaign.

The former Ipswich Town forward has featured 15 times for the Blues this term, but only six of those have been from the start.

And Jackett admitted Pitman would have had another chance to stake his claim for a starting spot against Spurs under-21s.

He said: 'Brett would have started.

'He would have wanted to play but he has a knee injury.

'Brett trained yesterday and felt it, but I don't think he'll be out for long.

'Hopefully he'll be training again next week and available for Scunthorpe onwards, which is a key period for us.'

Meanwhile, Jackett intends to give Anton Walkes some minutes against his old club tonight after the former Spurs man missed out at the weekend.

The Blues boss said: '˜There was no injury, Anton was fully fit but wasn't selected (against Maidenhead).

'˜He will play tonight.'
