Kenny Jackett praised Pompey's professionalism as the Blues booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup.
The League One table-toppers ran out comprehensive 4-0 victors over Maidenhead in the first round tie at York Road.
Loanees Ben Thompson and David Wheeler netted their first Blues goals in the success, while Oli Hawkins and Jamal Lowe were also on the scoresheet.
Pompey did survive a scare when Ayo Obileye struck the post with the game scoreless, but it was a stroll for Jackett's team after that.
The Blues boss congratulated his team for a job well done.
He said: 'We had good control of the game right the way through and put a lot of good balls into the box in the first half.
'Tom Naylor hit the crossbar but their one moment at 0-0 was when they hit the post – after that we went on to get what was a key goal before half time.
'It was a good left-foot cross from Ronan Curtis and Ben Thompson finished it.
'We did what we needed to do in the second half.
'Going down the hill we needed to make sure our fitness told and we got control of the game, which we did.
'We needed to go away from the opposition, if we could.
'I was pleased seeing the second, third and fourth goals going in, it got more comfortable.
'It turned in to a very professional job for Portsmouth.’
