The on-loan Aston Villa winger is currently in hospital after having a cyst removed from his right knee.

He revealed on his Twitter account yesterday that the problem had dogged him for the majority the year.

And manager Kenny Jackett initially revealed last week that it was because of the knee complaint that Green had been ruled out of Saturday's top-of-the-table clash with Peterborough.

Pompey fans on our Facebook page '“ Portsmouth FC - The News '“ and portsmouth.co.uk have wished the year-long loanee a speedy recovery.

Yet others have questioned the timing of the surgery and why the problem wasn't raised ahead of his move to Fratton Park.

Here's what fans have been saying...

If it has been causing him pain for the last year, he should of had it done during the summer?

Jo Blackman

Good medical we put him through then.

Will be like a new signing when he comes back fully fit..... hopefully we will see the best of him.

Cath Absolom

If he's already known about this for a year, why didn't he mention it when he had his medical before he signed for the club?

Or better still, why didn't he have it removed during the summer, as he's had long enough to have it done well before now.

I initially felt very sorry for the lad until I read that, as he was out injured for most of last season as well.

He could have had it done then, but obviously ignored it, so it couldn't have been that bad until now.  It was obviously never going to improve until he had it removed. So he's been very irresponsible when we've already allowed him to sign for our club.

How does this problem not get diagnosed at the pre-transfer medical?

Dave Byne

I wish he had taken the decision to have it done at the end of last season, but at least it's done and that's good news for Pompey and the player's future. wherever that may be.

And who knows, if we were to get promoted this season'¦

Edward Walton

Get well soon Greeny.

Graham David

I may be well off line here as I don't work for the club and cannot claim to fully understand the ins and outs of Green's loan deal, but am I the only one who is feeling a little fed up and cheated that he has come to us with a pre-existing condition, one that he has to quite quickly get operated on whilst (i assume) we are paying his wages!!!  If he's had it all year then how Aston Villians must be laughing. Apart from that, I hope he recovers quickly and wish him all the best but quite frankly I cant see how he's going to get into our current team anyway.

If this guy had a problem how did he pass a medical before signing?
