The 20-year-old has been secured on a season-long loan as Kenny Jackett bolsters attacking options ahead of the loan deadline.

He will train with the Blues tomorrow and come straight into the reckoning for the visit of Plymouth Argyle to Fratton Park on Saturday.

Jackett said: '˜We're really pleased to bring Andre in on loan as he has fantastic attacking potential '“ with pace, close control and the ability to go past people.

'˜There's a degree of flexibility as well because he can play out wide or through the middle. I think he'll fit in very well here.'

Green has appeared five times for Villa this season, starting their Championship victory over Wigan earlier this month.

However, following the loan arrivals of wingers Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie, the home-grown player has slipped down the pecking order.

That has prompted Steve Bruce to earmark Green for a loan spell, with  regular first-team football aiding his development.

Subsequently, Jackett has won the race to sign the attacking talent in a coup for the Blues.

In total, Green has appeared 31 times for Villa, scoring once, since making his debut in the Premier League in March 2016.

His arrival may also allow Conor Chaplin to complete his long-anticipated switch to Coventry, despite operating in different positions.

Green can operate wide on the left, but is also seen as a candidate to serve in the number 10 role at Pompey.

It's that flexibility which would enable him to slot centrally into the attacking three in the 4-2-3-1 system which Jackett has often employed.

He joins David Wheeler and Ben Thompson as  Pompey's loanees so far.
