QPR loanee ‘not too far away’ from returning to Portsmouth reckoning

David Wheeler is closing in on his return to full fitness.

The QPR loanee is currently sidelined with a back and hamstring injury he picked up against Walsall last month.

As a result, the winger has been sidelined for the Blues’ past four matches.

Wheeler again won’t be available for the trip to Barnsley on Saturday.

That’s Kenny Jackett’s only injury concern for the Oakwell clash – although Dion Donohue is unlikely to be involved after returning from a hamstring setback for the reserves on Tuesday.

The Pompey boss said: 'Donohue is fine and will be pushing now I’m sure over the Christmas period to be there or thereabouts.

‘Wheeler is not too far away, although he won’t be available this week.

‘Other than that we have a fully-fit squad, which is great news.’

Pompey also might be without Ben Thompson against the Tykes.

They await news on whether their appeal for his dismissal against Charlton will be overturned.
