Conor Chaplin will not be allowed to feature against Pompey when they travel to Coventry City on Tuesday.

That’s according to Andy Turner, the Sky Blues’ correspondent for the Coventry Telegraph.

As reported by The News, Kenny Jackett holds sway on whether Chaplin will be able to play against the Blues at the Ricoh Arena.

The Pompey academy graduate moved to Coventry on loan in August before the deal becomes permanent in January for a fee of around £500,000.

Confusion arose in the wake of the transfer over whether Chaplin could feature when the two sides meet in their first league encounter of the season.

Mark Robins had suggested the Worthing talent would be available in League One – but not if the clubs drew each other in a cup competition.

Conor Chaplin.

Conor Chaplin.

Following Coventry’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Saturday, Turner asked during the post-match press conference if Chaplin had been granted permission to face Pompey.

But he was told the striker is not allowed to be involved.

Turner wrote on Twitter: ‘Yes I asked and no he (Chaplin) isn’t allowed to play.’

Pompey travel to the Sky Blues top of the table following their 3-1 victory at Rochdale on Saturday.
