Revealed: Portsmouth's top performers so far this season

That's after The News sports desk dusted down the calculator and worked out the players' average ratings so far this term using those marks out of 10 allocated in the paper and at portsmouth.co.uk after each game.

And it's no surprise that Curtis, who is currently away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, comes out on top with Whatmough following his impressive start to his Pompey career '“ with both players acquiring ratings of 7.7.

Picked up from League of Ireland side Derry City over the summer, the 22-year-old has already warmed himself to the Fratton faithful '“ and our Pompey writers for that matter '“ with five goals and three assists in his seven games (league and Carabao Cup games counted only) for the Blues.

His presence was sorely missed in the 1-1 draw with struggling Shrewsbury at the weekend, with Curtis instead netting in Ireland's under-21 international draw with Kosovo the night before.

The winger could make his senior international debut for Martin O'Neill's side against Poland tonight '“ further recognition of the huge strides he's made at Fratton Park '“ but should be back in contention for the Blues when they travel to London Road this Saturday.

Whatmough will not be joining Curtis in the Pompey ranks, though.

He's still struggling with the hamstring injury he picked up against Plymouth earlier this month '“  and according to our ratings his absence against Peterborough represents a massive blow for Kenny Jackett's side.

Whatmough has established himself as Matt Clarke's central-defensive partner, after returning from a knee problem at the tail end of last season.

This term, he lined up alongside Clarke on six occasions prior to his injury setback, and was even out-performing his team-mate according to our ratings, with the former Ipswich currently sitting on a score of 7.1 from his eight games this season.

That still puts Clarke, who was named The News/Sports Mail player of the year for 2017-18, high up on the list of performers for Pompey this term.

But like Curtis, new-boys Craig MacGillivray (7.6) and Ben Thompson (7.2) have settled in well at Fratton Park following their moves from Shrewsbury and Millwall respectively and currently sit above Clarke in our standings.

Gareth Evans (7.1) and Tom Naylor (7.1) are also proving key players for a Pompey team who remain unbeaten in League One.

Meanwhile, at the other end, it appears that the likes of Christian Burgess (6.5), David Wheeler (6.3), Brett Pitman (6.2) and Anton Walkes (6.1) are struggling to make the sort of impact they would have wished when the season kicked off at the start of last month.

However, there's still plenty of football to be played this campaign, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to improve their power ratings as the Blues bid to return to the Championship.
