Leam Richardson lauded Pompey’s players after bouncing back to produce an eye-catching victory over promotion rivals Bristol Rovers.
The Blues were back to their best in today’s 3-1 triumph over Darrell Clarke’s side, with Gareth Evans, Michael Smith and substitute Marc McNulty among the scorers.
Paul Cook’s side could have even won more handsomely had it not been for the heroics of Rovers’ goalkeeper Steven Mildenhall.
Regardless, they have climbed back into fifth place following a display which delighted their assistant manager.
Richardson said: ‘The performance was very pleasing with the effort, the endeavour and the energy the lads gave.
‘We were playing against a good team in Bristol Rovers, with a good management team, good players on the pitch and full of confidence as well.
‘It’s nothing we have done differently this season in our good performances, we have come up against a team who want to win the game and believe they can win the game - it was a good spectacle as well.
‘We want to play with a certain tempo, a style and an endeavour and also so do Bristol Rovers.
‘To get the result and - secondary the performance - was very pleasing.’
