Two Alfie Rutherford goals earned the Hawks a sensational 2-1 win against Braintree Town at Westleigh Park.

Rutherford put Lee Bradbury’s side ahead in the 56th minute, before a Ryan Woodford own goal 14 minutes from time levelled matters.
The visitors then missed two glorious stoppage-time chances.

And that proved costly as Rutherford struck deep into stoppage-time to snatch the win.

The home side made four changes to the side beaten 3-0 at Salford City.

Tyler Cordner returned after suspension to partner Paul Robinson in the heart of the defence.

Rory Williams also re-appeared after injury.

The Hawks included three strikers, with Nicke Kabamba joining Rutherford and Jonah Ayunga in attack.

The visitors did most of the early pressing and Robinson was prominent twice when clearing the home team’s lines.

With conditions proving difficult, the hosts suddenly picked their game up and should have taken the lead after Will Wood drove in a low cross.

Kabamba was unmarked at the back post but the ball skidded under his foot.

In the Iron's next attack, Wood came to the rescue with a headed clearance off the line.

And moments later Robinson limped off to be replaced by Ryan Woodford.

Another chance fell to Braintree after a poor Woodford header – but, fortunately, his effort was wide.

Rutherford sent a diving header wide of the target five minutes into the second half.

The striker, however, made no mistake five minutes later.

A long clearance was picked up by the front man and he skipped past two challenges before hammering home.

The visitors levelled the scores on 76 minutes when Woodford sliced a cross from the left into his own net.
And almost immediately Ben Dudzinski had to block a well-struck long range free-kick.
The Hawks were hanging on, but Rutherford won the game deep into stoppage-time with a stooping header at the far post.
