David Nugent hopes to have his future sorted by the end of this month.
Nugent, whose 80th-minute strike earned Pompey a point at relegated Scunthorpe on Saturday, still doesn’t know where he’ll be playing next season.
But the former Preston striker wants the saga to come to a close quickly, with his current Fratton Park deal set to expire in the coming weeks.
Talks have been held over extending the striker’s stay but no agreement has been reached, fuelling rumours this season’s top scorer may be leaving.
Whatever lies in wait, though, Nugent wants his future decided before jetting off on holiday and reporting back for pre-season training at the start of July.
‘I want to go away on holiday, relax and know I’ve got a club,’ said Nugent.
‘So hopefully it will be sorted out by the beginning of June.
‘I don’t want it to drag on, not a chance. I hope to get it sorted as soon as possible so I can enjoy my holidays.
‘I told the gaffer I’d be in touch with him and tell him what’s going on but I don’t know what’s going on yet.
‘I’ve played a lot of games this season – the first season I’ve played a lot of games really – so I just want a break, have a think about it and come to a decision.’
Nugent joined his Pompey team-mates in throwing items of his matchday kit to the travelling Blues fans at the end of Saturday’s game at Glanford Park.
But he admitted this wasn’t his way of saying goodbye to the supporters.
He said: ‘It wasn’t a farewell – I threw my boots into the stand as the fans have deserved it. They’ve been quality all season.’
