Matt Tubbs struck the only goal of the game as Pompey chalked up a 1-0 win at Newport County.
The Blues turned in a disciplined display to secure a fifth away success this season and maintain their impressive start to the season.
In truth, they struggled to create too many opportunities.
But they always looked in control.
The winner came in first-half stoppage-time, when Kyle Bennett produced a bit of clever trickery and released Tubbs inside the box, who buried his angled shot to seal the points.
After the break, neither goalkeeper was called into action too often.
But that suited Pompey just fine as they turned in a composed defensive display, with Adam Webster and Christian Burgess both in commanding form at the back.
New loan signing Caolan Lavery came on as a substitute for the final 15 minutes, while Rommy Boco also made his debut from the bench.
But it was a fine team effort as Pompey’s remarkable unbeaten away record continued.
