POMPEY are considering calls to extend the deadline that was set to fans to pay up for ‘early bird’ season tickets.

Fans are upset they can’t pay by card and have been given such short notice to stump up the cash before tickets go on general sale on April 4 at a more expensive price.

Asked if fans will be given more time, the club said: ‘This was one of the requests that the Pompey Supporters Trust made to the club earlier in the week and it is currently under consideration by the board.’

The club said it is renegotiating the deal it has with its card service providers to allow fans to pay with plastic.

A club spokeswoman said: ‘We would certainly prefer that supporters were able to pay for their season tickets by debit or credit card.

‘As soon as we reach an acceptable agreement with our card service providers we will open that method up to our supporters.’

Pompey hope to reach a new deal with their providers by April 4.

But there is no guarantee this will happen. The club ‘couldn’t comment’ on how long it’s been trying to renegotiate with its providers.

n Yesterday’s story in The News expressed season ticket holders’ concerns that they may lose their seat if they do not renew before April 4. Pompey have said existing seats will be held until April 28.
