Svetoslav Todorov revealed he returned to Pompey to help fulfil a dream.

The popular Bulgarian striker, who famously scored the goal that took the Blues to the Premier League back in 2003, was in a Pompey shirt again last night as he played the final minutes of the friendly clash with IBV.

Todorov suggested it had been like coming home to see so many old friends as he enjoyed a warm ovation from the Pompey fans who clearly remembered his exploits.

And the 34-year-old at least completed part of his footballing dream in heading back to his old stomping ground a decade after his famous winner against Burnley.

He explained: ‘It didn’t feel strange – it felt like coming home.

‘One of my dreams before I finished playing was to come back to play at Fratton Park again.

‘Another dream is to play at Wembley but I don’t know if that’s going to be possible!

‘But it was good to see so many friends, to see people I know and get that respect.

‘It was fantastic to be back out there again.

‘When the fans were singing for me, it was great.

‘It’s unbelievable.

‘A lot of players have scored goals and important goals.

‘So I don’t think it’s just because of the goals I scored.

‘I think we have a lot of connection from when I played here.

‘The fans helped me a lot through my injury.

‘I had some great moments here. This club means a lot to me.

‘When I got the invitation to come back and play, I said “yes, of course”.
