Joel Ward has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract at Pompey.
The deal keeps the Emsworth youngster at Fratton Park until June 2013.
Ward, a product of Pompey’s youth system, has emerged as a first-team regular this season, operating in a variety of positions.
He only penned a new deal last summer, but Blues boss Steve Cotterill was desperate to ensure the promising youngster remained on the south coast.
Prior to tonight’s game against Burnley, the 21-year-old had made 27 appearance for the Blues this season.
His goal in the 2-2 with Leeds on Saturday was only his second in Pompey colours.
