Rohan Ricketts will not be having a Pompey trial.

The former Spurs and Wolves winger announced on Twitter earlier this week that he was expecting to link up with Steve Cotterill's men in training.

That prompted rumours the 28-year-old was yesterday at the Blues' Eastleigh base - although there was no sign.

However, The News understands Ricketts has not been offered a trial after all.

Steve Cotterill will instead explore other ways of strengthening his threadbare squad.

Rather than at the Blues' Eastleigh training base yesterday, Ricketts - who has also had spells playing in America, Moldova and Hungary - was in fact in Frankfurt, Germany.

Meanwhile, Pompey's 19-year-old left-midfielder Ellis Martin has joined the Hawks on a one-month loan deal.

He follows Perry Ryan into non-league football, who is currently on loan at Bognor.
