Pompey fans have voted for their starting XI to face Dagenham & Redbridge in tomorrow’s League Two opener.

All week The News has been asking readers to name their line-up to face the Daggers and step into the shoes of Paul Cook – and you haven’t let us down.

Nearly 1,000 teams were registered and now we can reveal the The News Pompey fans’ starting line-up.

Regular No1 Paul Jones was given to nod to start in goal, after picking up 81 per cent of the vote.

But 19 per cent were keen on Brian Murphy to get the shirt - even know he has yet to sign for Pompey!

The back-four consists of Ben Davies at right-back, with 91 per cent of fans believing he is the standout choice.

A central defensive partnership of Christian Burgess (98 per cent) and Matt Clarke (91 per cent) was the readers’ preferred choice.

Meanwhile, Enda Stevens (96 per cent) saw off competition from youngster Brandon Haunstrup (4 per cent) to play at left-back.

In the holding midfield-roles, Nigel Atangana (69 per cent) and Michael Doyle (95 per cent) were the players identified to fill those positions.

Interestingly, only 13 per cent of fans thought James Dunne should play a part in manager Cook’s starting XI.

In the three attacking-midfield roles, Gary Roberts (96 per cent), Kyle Bennett (86 per cent) and Gareth Evans (74 per cent) proved popular with the fans.

And up front in a lone striker role, Matt Tubbs was the unanimous choice as 93 per cent of supporters named him as the obvious choice to lead the attack.

It will be interesting to see if Cook agrees with your team when Pompey walk out to face Dagenham at 3pm tomorrow.
