Portsmouth Academy battle back twice to draw with AFC Bournemouth

Pompey Academy twice battled from behind to earn a draw against AFC Bournemouth in the Youth Alliance League southwest division.

Harvey Rew and Alfie Stanley both scored in the second half at the Blues' the club's Roko training base.

Yet boss Mark Kelly wouldn't have been satisfied with his side's set-piece defending, with both of the Cherries' goals coming from corners.

Pompey made the worst start possible and fell behind after two minutes.

Brennan Camp was left unmarked from a corner and emphatically headed home to break the deadlock for the visitors.

The Blues responded well, though, with Ethan Robb having a header from a set-piece deflected wide. 

Bournemouth went close to doubling their advantage on 16 minutes but Connor Kurran-Browne's effort was cleared off the line.

In contrast to their opening to the first half, the hosts started brightly in the second period.

They drew level in the 51st minute when Freddie Read's angled free-kick was glanced into the far corner by Wales under-16 international Rew.

It took the Cherries just six minutes to regain their advantage, however, with their second goal a repeat of their opener.

Camp was again left alone at a corner and nodded home his second goal.

The Blues refused to go down without a fight '“ and were back on level terms in the 67th minute.

Leon Maloney's cutback from the right picked out Stanley, whose effort found the net via a deflection.

Pompey pushed for a winner, with Read producing a decent late save from the Bournemouth keeper, but the home side settled for a point.Â
