Portsmouth ace Curtis wants to move up leagues

The Blues' in-form attacking ace has outlined his target of making it to the Premier League.

And Curtis sees no reason why he can't achieve that aim with the club he joined in the summer.

The 22-year-old's emergence has been crucial in the flying start produced by Kenny Jackett's team.

They are three points clear at the top of League One as they look to make it 12 league games unbeaten against Gillingham on Saturday.

Curtis has helped himself to six goals and five assists in that time, the latest of those efforts being his impressive winner at Coventry on Tuesday night.

The flying start has seen attention fall on the Republic of Ireland under-21 international, as the arrival from Derry City revels in the spotlight.

Curtis has made no secret of his ambition to play at a higher level - and is in a rush to do so.

But the thriving talent is confident he can move up the divisions with Pompey.

Curtis said: '˜This club should be in the Championship and the Premier League.

'˜I'm ambitious and we all know where we want to be.

'˜If you ask any footballer, they are going to say they want to be in the Prem.

'˜The Prem is the best league and that's where I want to be.

'˜We're playing well and hopefully we can get back to where we belong.

'˜I want to become a better player and coming here has made me a better player.

'˜I'm here with better players, better facilities, better training facilities and a better stadium.

'˜I'm playing at a 32,000 stadium and Pompey's holds 20,000.

'˜It's amazing.'

Pompey are now closing on the club-record 13-game unbeaten start to a season.

The success at Coventry meant they surpassed the 10 games Alan Ball's side went without defeat at the start of the 1984-85 campaign.

It's just George Smith's side who went 12 games without a loss in the 1961-62 season and Bob Jackson's Division One winners (1948-49) who remain in the current side's sights.

Curtis added: '˜They are proper teams who set these records.

'˜Kenny is a great manager with great staff and we know what we want.

'˜We're getting close to the record and we know we want to do it.

'˜Hopefully we play Saturday and then Tuesday and the wins keep coming.

'˜We want the wins and we'll take the draws - but we're not losing.'
