The Blues goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray has lauded current central defensive duo Jack Whatmough and Matt Clarke following a number of impressive displays this season.

Pompey have been blessed with some fine centre-back pairings down the years, with Noel Blake and Billy Gilbert high on the list of fans' favourites.

Supporters have given their verdict on the subject on The News' facebook page.

Sylvain Distin and Sol Campbell, who played together during Pompey's Premier League days, are also mentioned, while Arjan De Zeeuw and Linvoy Primus seem to have left a lasting impression on the Fratton faithful.

But the pairing of Jon Gittens and Russell Perrett were low on another fan's list of favourites.

Sol and Distin the best. Favourite....Linvoy and De Zeeuw. The current two are very much of the Symons/Awford ilk
