With Pompey currently sitting top of League One '“ four points clear of closest rivals Sunderland '“ many of the Fratton faithful have been eagerly anticipating the possibility of a reunion of rivalries in the Championship next season.

The powers that be at Southampton are clearly attempting to avoid such a scenario after sacking their manager following Saturday's 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

But Blues fans remain hopeful they can go head-to-head with their rivals again, regardless of Southampton's managerial change.

Here's a selection of what's been said'¦

Zen Young

Should have kept him to at least Feb, job would been done by then.

Never mind sure there are few managers out of work at the moment that will complete the job. See you next season.

Chris Dodd

He was doing a great job.

Paul Lennard

Shame, I was hoping he would hang on until after we beat them them in the cup.

Dave Rodrigues

Why not give him a 5 year contract?

He was doing so well!

Shoddy treatment in my opinion! He was doing all he could to ensure the South Coast Derby came back!

Chris Scott

A bit harsh, he was doing nothing wrong.

Joanne Trueman

He was doing an amazing job!

We were singing at Rochdale yesterday, that we wanted him to stay!

Hayd John Lewis

He was doing so well. He was getting them relegation.

Tony Martin

I think it's a terrible shame, they're not mathematically relegated yet.

Martin Williams

They should have kept him he was doing fine, and I was hoping to play them next season.

Dave Stevens

Oh dear. We're still coming for you.

Who will they replace him with?

Not many decent people available! Which is good.

See you in the Championship next year. Much love.
