AFC Wimbledon boss' Steve Seddon admission which gives Portsmouth boost amid interest in Birmingham man

Seddon spent the first half of his season on loan at the Wombles. He scored one goal in 19 appearances before being recalled by parent club Birmingham.

The Reading lad's situation has alerted Pompey, who are now in the market for a new left-sided defender after Cam Pring was recalled from his loan by Bristol City.

Seddon enjoyed a fine spell at Fratton Park when arriving in January last year. He bagged once in 18 games as Kenny Jackett's side suffered League One play-off semi-final defeat to Oxford.

The Blues are keen to bring the 23-year-old back for a second stint at Fratton Park.

Wimbledon had planned a quiet transfer window before the ex-Stevenage man departed.

Now Hodges has admitted Seddon's departure could see him sign a fresh face.

He told the South London Press: ‘There might be now (a signing). Especially with Seddon down and going back.

‘The option was probably getting one out to get another one in the door, so fingers crossed we can do it.’

Seddon was an unused substitute in Birmingham’s 2-0 defeat to Blackburn on Saturday.

FIFA rules state players can only represent two clubs in a season.

Therefore, if Seddon does feature for Aitor Karanka’s side then a move to Pompey will be off the cards.

He would only be able to return to AFC Wimbledon if he was to depart St Andrew’s once again.
