AFC Wimbledon outline why they are going against Portsmouth in vote over League One season

The Dons’ commercial director, Ivor Heller, is uncertain they have the capability to safely resume the campaign amid the coronavirus crisis.
And Heller has aired his personal view that football shouldn’t be on the agenda as the world attempts to come through the pandemic its facing.

Hide AdWimbledon issued a statement on Friday saying they are in support of curtailing the campaign.
The way forward is expected to drag on this week with the EFL board meeting on Wednesday paving the way for a vote.
Heller explained why Wimbledon have taken the position they have.
He told Sky Sports: ‘Health and safety has to come first.
‘Do I think there’s us and other clubs in League One who have the facilities and wherewithal to do this safely? No, I don’t.

Hide Ad‘I don’t believe we or other clubs do at this moment in time.
‘The amount of money involved in putting games on is large and punitive.
‘To my mind I don’t think any healthy footballer should be given any sort of test whatsoever while there’s people who need tests in the wider community for health reasons.
‘I’m not sure the resources are well used on football at the moment. That’s my personal belief.
‘I think football needs to take a back seat. It’s not the most important thing compared to health and safety.’
