The Blues climbed to fourth in League One this afternoon following a 4-1 triumph over the Railwaymen.

The foundations were laid in the first half, when Pompey established a two-goal advantage through Ronan Curtis, despite Crewe dominating possession and testing Craig MacGillivray on occasions.

Kenny Jackett introduced Lee Brown and Callum Johnson at the break, replacing Cam Pring and Haji Mnoga, and his team raised their game.

The outcome was a 4-1 success as the improved form continues.

Cannon told The News: ‘Some teams have more possession and other teams don’t, but you just have to be more clinical and at the moment the forwards are confident.

‘We ended up getting two goals and ended seeing out that half. The second half was better and we deserved it.

‘The first half we didn’t have control of the game full on, but it is what it is and we got the three points.

‘It wasn’t as good first half, but the win is the main thing and we’ve scored four goals, so it’s all good.

‘After the break we had more of a foot in the game, we had the ball more and looked more dangerous.

‘Whereas they were playing the diags in the first half, we counteracted them and ended up dealing with them a lot better in the second half.

‘Lee Brown is very experienced and you could see a couple of times when the ball came over he knew how to judge it properly and that helped us.’
