The Bristol City loanee has made four League One starts this season – the first time he has featured at this level.

In total, the 22-year-old has amassed 13 appearances for the Blues, yet remains second-choice behind Lee Brown.

And Jackett is convinced the left-back can thrive during a busy fixture list.

He told The News: ‘I like Cam, I think he’s a good player and for him now his challenge is to be hard to shift.

‘I think he can be good enough to go from strength to strength. He has done well for us and is improving all the time as a young lad.

‘He has adjusted well to this level and he is going to benefit through a run now.

‘Both of them do like to go forward, but Lee brings with him a lot of talking and experience to our back four and our defending, which we do like.

‘However, Cam Pring is also a good player, he’s strong, he can get forward very well, and we are pleased to have him at the club.

‘For now he will get that run in the side – and I think he’ll be able to take it with both hands.’

Pring is on a season-long loan at Fratton Park, which has a cancellation clause in January.

Although Jackett views plenty of Pompey football ahead this term for the youngster.

He added: ‘You never know about parent clubs, he’s a Bristol City player and we are pleased they have loaned him to us for the season.

‘But, similarly, our plans are that he works his way into the team and stays in and does a good job for us. It’s his first year at League One level.

‘We are pleased with him and we do think he’s going to get stronger as the season goes on.’
