It represents an obvious selection choice from Kenny Jackett, following Lee Brown’s hamstring tear in Saturday’s 2-0 success at Ipswich.

Pring came off the bench to deputise in that match – and retains the role for this evening’s visit of Joey Barton’s team.

That’s the sole change to the Blues’ starting XI as they seek to build on impressive successive wins over Peterborough and the Tractor Boys.

Haji Mnoga was called onto the bench to take Pring’s substitute place, with Bryn Morris again not making the match-day 18.

A point could be enough to lift the Blues into the top two for the first time since February 2019.

That will also depend on how leaders Hull and Lincoln fare in their respective matches during tonight’s latest round of games.

Pompey: MacGillivray, Johnson, Whatmough, Raggett, Brown, Harness, Naylor, Cannon, Curtis, Williams, Marquis.

Subs Not Used: Bass, Nicolaisen, Mnoga, Close, Jacobs, Hiwula, Harrison.
