Danny East will get a chance to show he can be part of Pompey’s future after answering Andy Awford’s SOS call.

The former Hull man has been plagued by injuries since joining in 2013 and is out of contract this summer.

But he returned to fitness recently after overcoming a pelvic problem that kept him out all season.

East had been building up his match fitness on loan at Aldershot, but was recalled by the Blues on Thursday after Josh Passley picked up a training ground injury.

The Fulham loanee has a tight hamstring and is rated as only 50-50 for the clash with Luton Town.

East seems the most likely replacement at right wing-back, and boss Awford has no qualms about throwing him straight into his starting line-up.

‘I’ve been and watched Danny a couple of times at Aldershot and he has done okay,’ said Awford.

‘It’s important that he came through 75 minutes on Saturday and then backed it up with 90 minutes on Tuesday.

‘He is match fit and didn’t have any problems negotiating the games.

‘Bringing him back was the sensible thing to do with Passley being iffy.

‘Josh has got a tight hamstring so we will see how that progresses.

‘I didn’t want to leave myself exposed and Danny gives us some cover in that area.

‘I’ve played him at right-back, right wing and in central midfield, so wing-back wouldn’t be a problem.’

With only a handful of reserve games, East needed match sharpness and Awford is thankful to the Shots for their assistance.

He added: ‘It has done him good. I thank Aldershot for giving him the game time and it has worked for him in building up his fitness.

‘The challenge for him now is to get into our team.

‘It’s down to him to do the business when he does get an opportunity.’

Meanwhile, Academy youngster Snorre Nilsen has joined Bognor on a one-month youth loan.
