1. Sheffield United 2-0 Pompey - August 12, 2000
Tony Pulis’ side would begin the millennium with a defeat to the Blades. Paul Devlin opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot on 12 minutes before Linvoy Primus scored an own goal on his Pompey debut with five minutes remaining. Photo: Richard Thompson
2. Wolves 2-2 Pompey - August 11, 2001
Fans who made the trip to the Black Country saw Pompey throw away three points. The visitors were two goals up after only 20 minutes. Summer-signing Peter Crouch bagged just eight minutes into his bow before Jason Crowe doubled the lead. However, Wolves would snatch a point with Shaun Newton and Cedric Roussel netting. Photo: .
3. Pompey 2-0 Nottingham Forest - August 10, 2002
The perfect start to what would be the perfect season for Harry Redknapp’s side. Dion Burton put Pompey in front on eight minutes before Vincent Pericard wrapped up the win on the stroke of half-time. The Blues would, of course, memorably go on to win the Division One crown. Photo: Steve Reid
4. Pompey 2-1 Aston Villa - August 16, 2003
One of the greatest opening-day victory in the club’s history. Pompey got off to a winning start in their first-ever Premiership game on a sunny south-coast afternoon. Teddy Sheringham, a summer coup, bagged on his debut on 41 minutes before Patrik Berger - another shrewd bit of business - doubled the lead in the second half. Gareth Barry reduced the arrears with eight minutes left before being sent-off five minutes later. Photo: .
